    Our Core Values

These values define who we are at Hospice and Palliative Care of Martha's Vineayrd. They guide how we serve patients and families, how we support one another, and how we carry out our mission.

    CARE:

We embrace the dignity of the whole person, meeting physical, emotional and spiritual needs with impartiality, discretion and confidentiality.  We assist patients and their loved ones in living each day as the end of life approaches.

    COMPASSION:

We provide comforting services whether at home, hospital or other care facilities with our specially trained and knowledgeable hospice nurses, social workers, bereavement counselors and volunteers.

    COMMUNITY:

We serve the entire Martha’s Vineyard community. We create a partnership with each patient and family whose wishes guide us in building a team with physicians, clergy, home care, and other health care providers.  We care for all age groups, including those on Medicare.

    Our History

Our history as Hospice of Martha's Vineyard was shaped by island residents, dedicated to caring for their neighbors.

Hospice of Martha’s Vineyard (HMV) was founded in 1981 by Island residents who believed that people facing serious illness and the end of life deserved compassionate, skilled care close to home. From the beginning, the organization has been rooted in community—neighbors caring for neighbors—guided by the belief that no one should navigate serious illness, dying, or grief alone.

Our Heartfelt Appreciation goes out to Katharine Graham and her Family.

Thank you to the late publisher and part-time Vineyarder, Katharine Graham and her family. Due to their generosity, Hospice of Martha’s Vineyard was able to move our headquarters in 2013 from a trailer at the Martha’s Vineyard Hospital to the beautiful office space we enjoyed for over a decade in the Tisbury Market Place. To the Graham family, your contribution has made such a difference to so many on our Island and we are forever grateful.
