Introducing the Donna Lee Stauffer Memorial Fund
|
|
|
HPCMV is honored to launch the Donna Lee Stauffer Memorial Fund, a new restricted fund supporting our social workers and counselors specially trained to provide grief support to children. The fund was established by former HPCMV Executive Director Cathy Stauffer Wozniak in memory of her six-year-old sister, Donna Lee, who was tragically killed when Cathy was just eight years old.
“Grief support specifically for children was not readily available when I lost my sister,” Cathy shared. “I’ve always wanted to do something meaningful to honor and remember her. This was a deeply personal way to transform a heartbreaking experience for my entire family into a source of hope for children today.”
Your generosity to the Donna Lee Stauffer Memorial Fund and Camp By The Sea will give young people facing profound loss the compassion, understanding, and tools they need to heal, build resilience, and grow into healthy, compassionate adults.

HPCMV Named a 2026 Hospice CAHPS Honors Recipient
Hospice & Palliative Care of Martha’s Vineyard has been named a 2026 Hospice CAHPS Honors recipient by MatrixCare, a national recognition awarded to hospice agencies that consistently deliver high-quality, patient-centered care. HPCMV is one of just seven hospice agencies in Massachusetts to receive this honor, and the only one on the Islands. This distinction is based entirely on survey feedback from patient families and caregivers, not self-reported data, which reflects the trust and comfort HPCMV provides during some of life’s most challenging moments.
To earn this honor, HPCMV scored above the national average on the survey’s “Willingness to Recommend” question, along with the majority of measures covering communication, symptom management, and emotional and spiritual support. It’s a recognition that comes directly from the people who matter most: the families we’ve walked alongside on the Island.

Caring for Someone You Love?
You Deserve Support, Too.
Caring for someone with a serious illness can be deeply meaningful — and incredibly demanding.
As needs increase, caregivers often find themselves managing medications, appointments, personal care and everyday responsibilities, while putting their own well-being aside.
At Hospice & Palliative Care of Martha’s Vineyard, caring for patients also means caring for the people who support them. Our caregiver respite resources are designed to help caregivers find time to rest, recharge and feel supported.
59 MILLION Americans care for an adult with
a complex medical condition or disability.
Nearly 4 in 10 caregivers say respite services would help. Yet only 13% use them.

Thank You To All Who Participated In Our 2026 Summer Soirée!
Thank you to everyone who attended and supported our 2026 Summer Soirée! This year marked our 45th anniversary of serving the Island, and it was especially meaningful to celebrate that milestone with all of you. Because of your generosity, we raised a record-breaking amount of over $325,000 and counting, to help Hospice & Palliative Care of Martha’s Vineyard provide quality hospice, palliative, and bereavement care.
We extend our deepest gratitude to our presenting sponsor, Martha’s Vineyard Bank, along with all our sponsors, donors, in-kind donors, auction bidders, golden ticket purchasers, and the more than 100 volunteers and community members who helped make this unforgettable evening possible. We’d also like to correct an oversight from our thank-you message last week: Your Market, Sweet Bites, and Espresso Love were inadvertently left off our in-kind donor list, and we’re so grateful for their generous contributions of liquor and desserts.
We truly couldn’t do this without you, thank you for helping us continue to serve our Island community with compassion and excellence, and for being part of 45 years of care on Martha’s Vineyard.
