Caring Conversations: What is Palliative Care?

Palliative care helps people living with serious illness improve their quality of life. At HPCMV, our expert palliative care team works together with your existing treatment team to provide extra support, not just for you, but for your whole family.

We empower you to better understand your illness and explore your options for care…

HPCMV Now Has An AED

Thanks to the MV Pulse Project!

Hospice & Palliative Care of Martha’s Vineyard now has an automated external defibrillator (AED), thanks to Lou Quattrucci from the MV Pulse Project through a Community Foundation grant. Our office in the Woodland Center Plaza will provide AED access to other businesses nearby. We’re grateful to Chuck Cummens and Henry Bassett for training our staff in Heartsaver CPR and AED use!

Quick action with an AED saved the life of Martha’s Vineyard community member, Lou Quattrucci. Lou has since started MV Pulse Project to purchase more AEDs for community spaces and ensure that everyone has easy access to this lifesaving technology.

Celebrations in April

National Healthcare Decisions Day

April 16 is National Health Care Decisions Day, an annual occasion to remind us of the importance of planning ahead and making our health care wishes known. HPCMV partners with Honoring Choices Massachusetts to offer resources, education and guidance to help people create an advance health care plan for their future. Health care planning is not just for the aging, but for everyone over the age of 18. In honor of NHDD, we encourage you to become empowered to make informed decisions about your health care preferences.

National Volunteer Week

During National Volunteer Week, April 19-25, 2026, we celebrate the incredible individuals who give their time, compassion, and energy to support our patients, families, and programs. Our volunteers are at the heart of everything we do—offering comfort, connection, and care in meaningful ways. We are deeply grateful for their dedication and the difference they make in our community each and every day. If you’re interested in patient care or administrative volunteering for HPCMV, please contact Jennifer Angell at 508-693-0189 or jangell@hospiceofmv.org. If you’re interested in event volunteering please contact fundraising@hospiceofmv.org

National Administrative Professionals Day

On Administrative Professionals Day, April 22, 2026, we recognize the dedicated team members who keep everything running smoothly behind the scenes. From coordinating care and supporting staff to welcoming grief counseling clients and answering patient calls, their organization, professionalism, and compassion are essential to our mission. We are so grateful for all the work our admin team does each day to support our team and the community we serve.
